how do i restore corrupt help files?

pcdim, please describe in more detail how you get this error under which Windows version.

First, I'd suggest fixing whatever problem is corrupting your help files.  Could there be an underlying hardware issue?  Perhaps a failing hard disk??

But you need to recover the original HELP files off your installation media.  You may need to re-install applications that have lost their help files.

Are these application help files or Help files associated with the operating system? Are they actually corrupt or are you getting errors, such as "Can't find such and such help file"?

i have just installed win2k and service pack 2 the help files that are corrupt exist in the start help under repair when i attempt to browse the error message says bad script blah blah  dr watson logs hh.exe error?

Hmm not sure if this will help or not but go to Start > Run and do this

sfc /scannow

no crazy one it didn't but i think i gave you the wrong info it is an internet explorer script error i am using ie6
