Internet Explorer Java problem

I'm really stumped with this and it's messing up my browsing badly. I keep getting messages from Internet Explorer that I need MRJ 2.1 or higher to run Java inside Internet Explorer (5.0).

I downloaded and reinstalled Mac OS Runtime for Java 2.5.5 but I still get the messages and can't view some webpages involving Java. Any ideas?

OS 9.1 on PowerWave 150 with PowerLogix G3 366.

TIA,

Have you tried doing a "fix" or re-install of internet explorer?
It might have wanted to look at and reference MRJ when installing and then once you installed Ver 2.5.5 it can't see it as it needs to be installed later??

I haven't reinstalled it, no, but I IE looks for MRJ each time it loads a page with Java. There is no installation process for IE, you just drag it onto you're hard drive. I now have a simitar problem in IE with Flash where it tells me it isn't installed and then doesn't display the animations. It _is_ installed and the installer refuses to to install anything noting that it's all already there. I'm poretty close to dumping IE (pity, I like it) and going back st Netscape.

Where does IE store info about installed plugins etc.? In the app. itslef? A prefs. file?

My apologies, I thought I'd retired this question. I solvedthis with the help of someone on a newsgroup. Thanks for your references, they were helpful.

Good point - though this question is months old and I beleived I'd retired it.

In the System Folder>Extensions>MRJ Libraries>MRJClasses a there are 3 files: JDKClasses.zip; MRJClasses.zip and QTJava.zip. As well as these 3 files,  _my_ MRJClasses folder also contained what appeared to be the unzipped versions of these files. Removing these unzipped versions fixed the problem. How does MRJ make use of these files while they're zipped?
HTH,

Now, how do I delete the question? (I'm not worried about getting my points back.)
I'll handle this for you to 1) refund points and 2) move to our PAQ since it may help others to close it.
thanks,
Asta
