Error of Kernet32.dll in VB6

I get the following error in the final stage (writing the exe) of Making a
> simple exe file:
> "VB6 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL" The two obj
files
> have been created OK
> This is a very annoying error because ctrl-alt-del does not work and the
> only option is to reboot.
> S/w versions are: VB 6.0 Enterprise SP5 & VSS 6.0a on Win98
> This problem has arisen only this week - no problems before this. No
system
> changes I am aware of since all was OK.
> Uninstalling VB & VSS and reinstalling from scratch did not fix the
problem.
> Any ideas? What should I try next?

Have you gotten a new virus update and run it on that machine?  I once ran into close to the same issue trying to run an application other then VS.  After reinstalling the app still crashed and I had to reboot.  It took me weeks to figure out what the problem was?.it was a virus.
