When I run install, it books and looks like it works for a bit, then after
Partition check:
 hda: hda1
[MS-DOS FS Rel. 12,FAT 0,check=n..... etc

I get the following message
Error: Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:00

What is wrong? Am I missing files or doing something wrong?
I am running VPC4 emulator for the Apple Mac and have the stuff above on the C drive
I have a blank D Drive which is a DOS drive right now, which will be the Debian drive.

This may have many reasons. What is happening is that the kernel comes up and looks for the root file system somewhere. This 'should' be the the one fom images-1.44. Have you made sure that this is not gzipped or zipped ? It could be just plain corrupted too.

Also, I am not too sure what VPC4 does on the device level since linux may talk to the hardware directly. And since you are appartenly running on a powerpc hardware, this may cause some problems.

Here is some more help: http://www.uk.debian.org/releases/stable/powerpc/install

I personally prefer the boot disk installation because it is so nicely uncomplicated.

Hope this helps.
