ORA-27101 shared memory realm does not exist

zpv7 asked

I'm attempting to install Oracle 8.1.7 on an intel machine with the Solaris 8 operating system. The installation completes successfully, but upon the initialization of the database I get the error "ORA-27101 shared memory realm does not exist".

The Oracle error message Cause: Unable to locate shared memory realm.

The Oracle error message Action: Verify that the realm is accessible.

How do I verify that the realm is accessible?
If it isn't accessible, how do I make it accessible?

Thanks in advance

check to see if your ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are set correctly.Check even the case of SID and ORACLE_HOME setting in your system.
this is a simple problem. just log on to dba studio as internal user and click the database. select the session and click the start database. it will ask for the pfile and u browse to the inti.ora file in oracle_home/admin...inti.ora and click ok. then it will start the database.
if u connect now it will be connected.

ORA-27101 shared memory realm does not exist

This error occurs because the oracle instance has not yet been started. And none of the memory structures ( shared pool, buffer cache etc ) have been allocated.

Start the instance by logging into a idle instance using sqlplus ( or enterprise manager ) as sysdba and use a parameter file to start the instance.

When connecting to the database as sysdba an administrative oracle process is started that can be used to start and shutdown respective oracle process.

Before u start sqlplus make sure you are using the corrent SID.

Hope this clarifies.

I have discovered that the path for the local\bin was incorrect.
