Parallel Port Scanner under Win 2000

Hi

I have an AGFA parallel port scanner. I have upgraded my PC to Win 2000 and I cannot get my scanner to work.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from AGFA and the scanner software will not detect the scanner. The cables etc are OK because I have a printer connected to the scanner which is working fine.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Karro,

Make certain the CMOS/BIOS is configured at the parrallel port using [ECP].

In the control Panel, Scanners and Cameras Icon, Click Add and follow the Wizard.

You may try to install a "Agfa ePhoto Digital Camera" from the list of device. Get ready with the Windows 2000 Pro cdrom in the cdrom drive. Okay to continue.

Having finished installing the camera, some system drivers which is necessary to set up the Twain source will be installed too from the Windows cdrom.

Then inspect if you can see the Agfa scanner now.

If not, uninstall the Agfa scanner.
Without restart.
Reinstall again the Agfa scanner via the Scanners and Camera icon, add, wizard, browse to driver disk.

See if that helps and let me know how you make it out.

Hi

Thanks for the replies - unfortunately it didn't work.

How can AGFA just refuse to support the scanner under Win 2000 ?

Thanks

Hi Gavin,

Unlike Windows 2000, Windows 95/98/ME permits direct hardware access to software programs. In order for Agfa to make this work under Windows 2000/XP, they need to complete rewrite their drivers to access the NT API rather than direct hardware access. It's and expensive process when it comes to parallel port scanners.

Hi Dennis

Thanks for the response.

Does this mean that if I go onto Windows ME, I shouldn't have this problem ?

If you're looking for my honest opnion, it would be to keep Win2000 and change scanners. 2000 is stable and ME is a groundhog by comparison.

Thanks, I must admit that my machine is a lot more stable since I went onto Win 2000.
