HomeSite extended replace syntax

Does anyone in their right mind know how to use the extended find and replace syntax in Homesite?

For example, I want to replace all instances of:

id="*" with nothing (ie. delete)

where by * I mean the typical DOS wildcard.  I couldn't understand the help documentation.

If I understand, you have a bunch of coding that is

id=something
id=somethingelse
id=yetathirdsomething

You want to get rid of it. Assuming that's the case, start by opening the extended search and replace.

In the search box, type

id=[A-Za-z0-9]

Leave the replace box empty. That should do it...

I should mention that the [A-Za-z0-9] means any and all alphanumeric characters.

I didn't know there was a whole science to "regular expressions"

I learned about it and used the following:

id="[^"]*"

[^"] means: any character that's not a "
* means: as many of these that you find in succession

to get rid of the id="somethingandsomethingelse"
