Network ability to browse is amiss

Hello,

I have a home network. One Server 2K and 3 client 2K Pros.  Last week one of my clients, Client 1 crashed (my fault) and after I brought it back on board I noticed the issues below. I have spent two days trying to configure things and am bleary eyed.  I don't know if the crashed PC had something to do with this (I DOUBT it) so, I am having trouble figuring out what happened.  It used to be that all PC's could openly browse each other.  So, here's whats going on.  I would appreciate some strong pointers as to where to start troubleshooting.  Suggestions as to where I need to go and look on the server and my clients.  I've been to the books.

In other words....HELP!!!!  Here is the scenario:

From Server

Can only ?see? Client 1 using IP Address in ?Search for Computers?.  Cannot see Client 1 by name resolution.
Can ?see? Client 2 Am able to browse without prompt for User and PW. Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 2.
Can ?see? Client 3  Am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.  Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 3.
Can ?see? Client 4  Am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.  Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 4.

From Client 1

Can ?see? Server and am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.
Can ?see? Client 2 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 2.
Can ?see? Client 3 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 3.
Can ?see? Client 4 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 4.

From Client 2

Can ?see? Server and am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.
Can ?see? Client 1 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 1. Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 1.
Can ?see? Client 3 and am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.
Can ?see? Client 4 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 4 .Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 4.

From Client 3

Can ?see? Server Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 1.  Locations displayed as ?unknown? after Server.
Can ?see? Client 1 Am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.
Can ?see? Client 2 Am able to browse without prompt for User and PW.
Can ?see? Client 4 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 4.  Locations displayed as ?unknown? after Client 4.

From Client 4 (laptop)

Can ?see? Server Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Server.  Locations displayed as ?unknown? after \\Server.
Can ?see? Client 1 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 1.  Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 1.
Can ?see? Client 2 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Baldwin.  Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 2.
Can ?see? Client 3 Prompted for ?Connect as? or Password when attempting to browse Client 3.  Location displayed as ?OTD? after \\Client 3

-Is the server a domain controller ?
-If not. Do all machines belong to the same workgroup ?
-Are they all in the same subnet ?
-How do they obtain IP information ?
-Have you enabled the guest account on all computer if not part of a domain ?
-Have you entered invalid DNS, wins or hosts, lmhosts information on any computers ?
-You're describing a basic resolution & credentials issue, so the answer will lye in a misconfiguration addressed by the questions Ive posed.

Answers to questions.

-Yes, Domain Controller
-Same Subnet
-Reservations for each Client thru DHCP. No problems here.
-Guest Accts. disabled
-No WINS has been designated as I thought non was necessary in 2K.
-No DNS problems that I can see.

Thank you....again...HNet
okay DC great..
-You can see all computer accounts on the server ?
-Is file & printer sharing enabled in the local area connection setting for the NIC of all 4 computers ?
-Are all your stations pointing the 2000 server for DNS resolution ?
-yes
-yes
-yes

Thank you..............
dude, you seem to be dismissing my attempts to help you pretty quickly here....
-In case Ive misunderstood... what is the core of the problem ? You cant see a computer in network places or ping it by name... is that correct ?

I can see and ping the computers.  I cannot connect to some of them, from some of them, without promts for "connect As" (ie ADMIN) and the clients do not ack. the domain...they see the client but under Location in Netwrok places->search results, the location is "unknown".  Some of them do display Location as the domain name.  The Server is the only one who SEES, BROWSES and ID's without prompts for PW.  This would not even be much of an issue on a home network, but they used to be able to and now that they don't, a problem is indicated and diagnosing warrented.

My apologies for misunderstood responses.  I'm off to an appt. and trying to give you info before I have to leave.

No harm or disrespect intended.

And I'm a dude-ette.
-It sounds to me like you're describing some sort of computer accounts corruption in AD.
try this.. on a station right click on my computer & chose manage. Add domain users from the domain to the local users of the station.. Did it solve the problem ?
-Try removing a station from the domain & switching its setting to a workgroup computer.. Then re-join the domain.
Hello,

I have attemped the dis-joining and rejoining many times with no results.

When I select manage, there is no option to add domain users.  I surely am missing something here.

Back in a few hours.  Thanks so very much.  Sigh.
