asked on

Normal form as a Child form

I have a form with FormStyle := fsNormal.

I want to show this form as a modal form - Form1.ShowModal;

In some cases I want to show the form1 as a MDIChild.

How can I do this?
May be I have to change run-time FormStyle ...

Thanks

yes, but your mainform must have then
to be a mdiform

but you can also set the parent like

MySometimesChildform.Parent := MyParentForm;
//its not like an mdiChild, but try it

meikl ;-)

When you create the form you can programmtically change the form style.

i.e.

Procedure ShowMDI;
Begin
  MySometimesChildform.FormStyle := fsMDIChild;
End;

Or as a Modal

Procedure Modal;
Begin
  MySometimesChildform.FormStyle := fsNormal;
  MySometimesChildform.Showmodal;
End;

Colin Dawson.
It's true, firts, when you use a mdichild, you need the main form has a mdiform.

You can change your form style at runtime by the code supplied by mr. Dawson!

But you cannot use ShowModal with a MDIChild form.  You have to use MyForm.Show.

You can try this

procedure ShowMdiChild;
begin
  myForm.FormStyle := fsMDIChild;
  myForm.Show;
end;

procedure ShowNormal;
begin
  myForm.FormStyle := fsNormal;
  myForm.ShowModal;
end;
Hi all!

Correct me if I am wrong, but does anyone ever seen one form showing either modally or as mdi child form? PMarkov, please can you tell us a bit more about your intentions?

Best regards, Ivo.
psycho_cat_69: I thought that setting the formstyle to fsMDIChild, called the formshow, and made the form permantly visible too.
Your wright, when you set the formStyle to MDIChild, the form automatically show itself.  But still, the form is not Modal!

The point of my last comment was only to explain that you cannot make a MDIChild form modal!

Anyway, i think we understand each other!!!

Best regards,

Mark.
