MS Exchange databases are in inconsistent state

Our exchange databases - priv.edb and pub.edb - are in inconsistent state as reported by the error message when we try to state the Information store service as well as when we run the 'eseutil /mh priv.edb' and similarly for pub.edb.

The error message that comes up is - "Error Database is in inconsistent state initializing the microsft Exchange Server Information Store Database".

This happened because one of the exchange admins had run eseutil and then isinteg to check and fix integrity errors in the dbs. Now he had thought that he had satisfactorily backed up the databases. However it turned out to everyones dismay that the backup media is unreadable and we are facing the above problem.

Is there any way we can return the database to a consistent state from this point on? Somehow? The particular admin who ran the procedure is not here at the moment so I am trying to work from the above details.

I am really hoping someone has the answer :-)

I have something else to do at the moment.  If the links already posted don't help.  Post back here and maybe I or someone else can find some more helpful info.
