We have a Win98 machine that gets its IP from a DHCP/Win2000 server.

I want to set a default gateway back to a old network, I enter it, restart machine, but it doesn't appear, when i do IPCONFIG i get the assigned IP, netmask, but no gateway, had this problem when it was a win95 machine, reformated installed win98 but still the same ???

Am i missing something obvious :)

When0 you manually configure all IP parameters (the IP addr, netmask and gateway) does the same thing happen? Does DHCP normally supply the default gateway?

Sorry . . . gotta ask . . . so you are disabling DHCP on the Win98 machine and manually configuring all the parameters? or are you simply manually adding a gateway and rebooting? (I don't have a Win98 machine to know whether it's possible to enter a different default gateway WITH DHCP still selected (I wouldn't think so.)

Good luck.

Thanks Steve, you spotted it there !!

When it was receiving its IP from the DHCP server no gateway was set. Manually configured IP etc. and bingo, all working.

Bit strange as it lets you set the gateway even if DHCP is selected. I've set gateways on Win2000 machines which obtain IP's from DHCP ok ???

Thanks
