Ntbackup failure on exchange 5.5 sp 4 running on windows2000 sp2
I am trying to back up an Exchange 5.5 SP 4 server running
on Win2K SP 2. I cannot successfully backup the message
store or the directory. NTBackup says that the Exchange
service reported an error. When I check the log on the
machine that is running the backup, there are events
similar to the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTBackup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8010
Date: 1/9/2002
Time: 10:25:17 AM
User: N/A
Computer: LAB-P-EX-SAL
Description:
Microsoft Exchange services returned 'Access is denied.
' from a call to 'BackupOpen()' additional data '\\LAB-P-
EX-SAL\C$\exchsrvr\DSADATA \\edb00007 .log'
The problem appears to be isolated to Exchange running on
Win2K. I can back up another Exchange 5.5 server in the
same organization with no problems. That Exchange server
is still running on Win NT 4.0 SP6.
The backup runs with the exchange system account, being local administrator on the Win2000 server
on Win2K SP 2. I cannot successfully backup the message

I don't think NT backup has the capacity to backup the Exchange store unless the services are stopped during the backup. 3rd party products like Arcserve or Veritas Backup Exec have connectors that will do this.
ASKER
Nt Backup is supposed to be capable to run a online backup of exchange. I did it for years on NT 4.
ASKER
Solved the problem myselve by re-installing sp 4 for exchange
