Mail not sending

I've had this problem since OL2000 and now on 2002.  I'm using OL2002 in IMO mode.  Connected to a T1.  If I have it set to "send immediately" often, hitting CTRL-ENTER when finishing a message, the mail stays in the outbox with a "this message has not been sent" on it. There's also a "mail delivery error" in the status bar.  A simple click on the SEND button then sends it off.  Often, the recipients claim they've gotten the email twice.

This has happened on different accounts (though I'm only using one now) and different SMTP servers.

It doesn't happen if I disable "send immediately."  I'd like to "send immediately" without having the mail just sit there.  What's up here?

Need better details on the error message.  Have you checked for a virus?  You can do so for free at http://housecall.antivirus.com
You may also be able to work around this by looking in your SENT items to see if it was sent but also remained in the outbox.

When the error next occurs, I will post the results.  This has nothing to do with either a virus or repair and detect.

This has happened on mulitple computers, two different versions of Outlook.  The computers are clean and repairs have been done many times, including scanpst

if you don't hide the sending window, you can get what the specific mail delivery error is. That might help us narrow down the problem.

sounds like the message is being created for delivery, runs into the error, doesn't get rid of the message, then you hit the send, it recreates the message but the other still exists so both get sent...

how long have you allowed mail to sit before forcing it?

>> how long have you allowed mail to sit before forcing it?

Not sure what you mean here.  Initially, the mail doesn't sit at all.  I compose it and send it off with a CTRL-ENTER.

Once it's in the outbox with the error message -- I might not let it sit at all.  Just open it up from within the outbox and click on "SEND."
