I going to be attempting to create an NT/2000 service that will occcasionally poll a DB and dependant on that data do something.  Now the DB stuff I'm ok with.

However, I'm unsure as to how a service works, i.e, what is the best way of programming it.  A simple while loop , but on what condition, how do I keep it running.

any help or URL's or even books would be great.
I've had "Professional NT services" by Richard Grimes suggested to me, but I wanted a little more advice.
