Driver Controller Error

When I boot my 2000 server, this appears in the system log in the Event Viewer:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Tape0.

I have a Seagate STT8000A and I'm using Veritas Backup Exec 8.5 Build 3572..I can't make the backups work either. This message in the event viewer appeared all of a sudden..could some piece of hardware go bad or do I need a driver update? Thanks

look in the device manager and see if it is showing 2 tape devices. If it is showing 2 and one of them is a dat then right click on and disable the dat drive. Windows 2000 does not install the drive correctly and the 2 will conflict. once you disable that everything should run smoothe. I have seen this several times before with win2k and these seagate drives. Good Luck

There is only one Tape Device listed...I must say that I went into the Computer Management Utility, Storage, Removable Storage, Physical Locations ...and I saw the Seagate Drive listed there, with a red X through it. I don't know what to do beyond that. Thanks

Have you checked the hardware compatibility list at the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine whether the tape drive is compatible?
