Hi,
some site i encounter when browsing the net,

http://www.cedarville.edu/dept/compserv/text_effects_tables.htm

http://www.mccannas.com/pshop4/tip40.htm

anyway...you search using Google search engine...and type this in the search box ...
"font effects using photoshop"

what kind of font effects?  There are a lot of things you can do in photoshop and well as Illustrator, if you have that
any feedback here or are you just taking our answers and running?

Hi Brunobear,

I respect this site as much as you respect it. as far as taking answers and running - NO. Its only that the number of response I received is very less than I thought. Its not that the links you have given is not good. They are very useful. I want some more experts to come up with anything different. Or if you know any books that deals only with photoshop effects, that would be great.
I don't jump over into graphics often, but I think the graphics(general) area gets more attention then the photoshop area.

perhaps weed will know some good books?

BRUNO
Go into any computer store and look at the Photoshop books. There are dozens. None of which im especially fond of since they tend to focus on trendy and usually hideously ugly text effects. Flaming text, aqua text, chrome, etc etc. Pretty cliche.

Thats a pretty worthwhile site for general effects, most of which apply to text as well as anything else.

I agree with weed on the books - most of them are very cliche - you'll get several generally overused and hideous versions of the same thing. The only books on Photoshop I have found with any value (to me, at any rate) have been an O'Reilly's guide and the Photoshop WOW! book (but that was when I was learning - now its just a dust collector - at the time it was fabulous).

Experiment with layer effects, filters and hand-painted effects - look at other work and try to work out how it was done. In the end you'll get better results.
You do not have to "learn to create different font effects". You can make cool font effects in seconds with FontTwister http://www.neuber.com/twister/index.html. (There a some nice examples on this page.)
Try http://www.guistuff.com
They have many useful tips on different Photoshop effects for type and other creative web guru tutorials.
why not try experimenting with default photoshop effect, they are prett good.
