asked on
how do I configure ICS?
Hello All
I have two PC's both 98se, networked with 2 Dlink DFE538 TX 10/100 cards and a crossover cable. I wish to share my adsl connection through ICS. I have installed it on the machine without the modem ok, but when I try to install it on the machine with the dsl modem (alcatel PCI) I get to the part in the ICS wizard where it asks what I want to use to share with. There is a problem here as only the dial up adapter is listed, and if I try to select that, it says this is not a adsl or broadband device (or something like that) Then ICS is not installed. All help gratefully recieved.
Regards, Mal.

The easiest solution thaough is to get a dsl router. I just picked up a d-link DI-704P, for $80 US (and then $50 rebates = net cost $30)

Pretend Im a real idiot when it comes to networking, as it is true. Any chance of an easier to comprehend explanation! :)
I read the links, too complicated for me sorry. Thats why I asked on here, If I could understand that stuff, I would just go to it.

OK, did this box ever have a modem, and a dial up connection?
Does your dsl use PPPoE?
If so, ICS, make sure to choose the PPPoE adapter as the connection tot he internet, and not the NIC that connects to the dsl modem
IN network neighborhood, right click choose properties, and tell me if the is a dialup adapter listed there

Hi, all that info was of no use, I think the problem is we run at PPPoA in the UK, and that seemed to refer to PPPoE?
Anyway, I followed the instructions (learnt a bit, too) and it was of no avail, all the ICS wizard would give me was the DUA as a device. I am fed up with ICS now, and have got "all aboard" in a few mins the job was done, after hours of head scratching with that ICS guide to no avail. So stuff ICS.

I have used ICS with PPPoE, not PPPoA, but switched to a D-Link residential gateway for the performance and a hardware firewall
Any way, delete this question and get your points back
Glad you're up and running
