Task Manager Error

I hope someone has seen this before cuz I never have.
When I open the Task Manger in I am unable to stop processes under the processes tab.
The Error I get is:
Operation could not be completed.
Binding handle invalid.
Happens on all processes.

Checked the MS knowledge base but found very limited info.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sean

Are you now, or have you ever, used Active Directory on this box?

If so, are you no longer connected to the domain controller?

I have installed sp2 since this problem started but it did not seem to make a difference.
I will try the sfc /scannow.
Yes this one has me baffled!@#$%&*() :}

Why You Should Analyze Threat Actor TTPs

After years of analyzing threat actor behavior, it’s become clear that at any given time there are specific tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) that are particularly prevalent. By analyzing and understanding these TTPs, you can dramatically enhance your security program.

I am really not sure when the problem started so I can't really say if software has been installed since then or not.
(The machine belongs to my Step-Father and due to my occupation I am elected to maintain family machines.)
I have not run sfc /scannow yet I will later and go from there.

Look in control panel/services if there is a service attached to your proccess. If yes, stop the service.

I ran into this problem last year and searched high and low for an answer.
I cannot remember what I found but I do remember that in the end the only solution I found that worked was a reload.
Of course that depends on the role the system plays and your ability to back up data.

Good luck.
