chroot

Madam,
do mean programatically (compiled program), or from within any shell?

The chroot command can be quite useful for securing a
system. Consider you run a public internet server: if you
start that process for example with:

  chroot /everyone_may_see_the_content_of_this_directory server

every access to e.g. /my_very_private_place is blocked by
operating system, even when some bug in the server software
might otherwise be exploited to gain access to it -- it is
simply not visible to the server process

I want to use it in shell. I heard chroot is used to change root directory to some other directory.For example from harddisk root directory to floppy disk root directory.
