thanks for you response. i agree with your comment about consolidating the movie, thats what i figured would work in the first place, easiest option. <br />

setting the sound to zero is not an option for me as we want the sound to start from the beginning each time.<br />

as for the global variable, it would be along process i am sure and have limited time to do so.<br />

The last solution I suggested is what I normally used, unless I needed to use cue points for timing graphics to the audio.<br />

i have a director movie with a button to turn the sound on and off. i can click this button to turn off the sound but whenever i go back to a different section of this movie, the sound starts to play again. so the sound off lingo doesn't hold. my director movie consists of several smaller director movies..i.e. each section/button calls another director movie within my main director...<br />
