i have a director movie with a button to turn the sound on and off. i can click this button to turn off the sound but whenever i go back to a different section of this movie, the sound starts to play again. so the sound off lingo doesn't hold. my director movie consists of several smaller director movies..i.e. each section/button calls another director movie within my main director...

does anyone know how to keep the sound off until the sound button is clicked again??

First of all, you might want to consider consolodating into one director movie.  It would make things less complicated.

How are you turning the sound off?  I assume you are using pause or stop?  Try changing the volume to zero.

I'm not sure if that will work or not, but you could also do it by setting a global variable which says whether sound is off or on.  And each time a movie is loaded which has sound in it, check that variable and pause the sound if it's supposed to be off.

Yet another option is to force all sounds to be started via a lingo call (play member "xx").  And then each time you are about to start a sound, be sure to check if sound is on or not.

thanks for you response. i agree with your comment about consolidating the movie, thats what i figured would work in the first place, easiest option.

setting the sound to zero is not an option for me as we want the sound to start from the beginning each time.

as for the global variable, it would be along process i am sure and have limited time to do so.

The last solution I suggested is what I normally used, unless I needed to use cue points for timing graphics to the audio.

Glad to be of help though...
