reading mail

I've a web site which has a number of mailboxes. I would like for the members to go to the web site, and then access their mail (so that when they are not in the office, they have easy access to the mail). Any suggestions? (Windows 98, frontpage 2000, or whatever else might be recommended)

What mail server? Is it yours? Did you set it up? Do you have admin access to it? This has to be set up on the SERVER, the client has nothing to do with it.

This is actually a pretty complicated issue your looking at.  You want a secure site, or a site that uses tokens so people can log into their webbased mailbox from a remote access point, but you need some security so not anybody can login.  Frontpage does not have this capability at all, your looking at a 3rd party software solution IF you have access to the server to do some modifications, but whoever installs it will need some skill with programming.

The easiest way to do this is to pick a host that has a webviewer for mail, then at a remote location they can login and view their mail, and if at home can download it with a pop3 acct.

The other solution is to use a webbased company that has the same option, a webbased viewer, such as www.norada.com which provides online offices to companies and all you need is a browser or even yahoo.com that has both pop3 access and a webviewer.  If you don't want 3rd party advertsing in your corporate mail, you will have to pay for services.  (and yahoo pop3 mailboxes become $20/year starting 4/20)

eWhisper, there isn't enough info given to even come CLOSE to proposing anything that might be considered a solution.

You don't know if they're hosting the site, they're having it hosted, running a mail server, not running one, NOTHING.
