Outlook causing Printer Spool32 Errors?

Since recently installing Outlook I have spool32 errors when trying to print from Word 97 to a Epson EPL-5700 printer. I have re-formated the hard drive and re-installed Windows 98, Office 97, Outlook 2000 and the printer drivers. problem persists.

Did you install Service Pack 2b for Office97?  I have had similar problems with Office97 until I installed this service pack.

You should already be at Service Release 1, but verify, if not download and install it first/

When you installed Office 97 and Outlook 2000, did you install Outlook 97?  Uninstall all of Office, then use the Office Eraser program:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q252/5/66.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q239/9/38.asp

To completely remove all traces of Office, then reinstall O97.  Do a custom install, don't install Outlook 97.  Then install OL2K.

Do you have Norton Antivirus installed?

MS KB Article Q247821:

SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to print tasks, task lists or contacts you may receive the
following error:

   SPOOL32 caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll.

CAUSE
=====

This may be caused by a problem with your installation of Norton AntiVirus.

RESOLUTION
==========

If the workaround corrects the error you should contact Symantec support for a
permanent solution.

WORKAROUND
==========

First turn off any Norton AntiVirus add-ins in the Outlook Add-in Manager.

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options, and then click Add-in Manager.

3. Click to clear any Symantec or Norton AntiVirus add-ins, and then click OK
  three times to exit all dialog boxes.

4. Quit and restart Outlook to see if the problem reoccurs.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem unregistering the Norton AntiVirus
OfficeAV.dll add-in may stop the error.

To unregister the OfficeAV.dll add-in:

1. Click Start, and click Run.

2. In the Open box, type

   regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"

   and click OK. If the command is successful, you see the message:

   DllUnregisterServer in C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\OfficeAV.dll
  succeeded.

NOTE: If the command is unsuccessful, search the hard disk drive for the file. It
is possible that the file is located in a different folder. Running the same
command without the /u switch registers the file.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The resolution described earlier disables the virus scanning add-in that is
installed during Norton AntiVirus 2000 setup. This add-in functions to scan
documents and messages for macro-virus infections in Microsoft Office products.
When this add-in is disabled, Norton AntiVirus does not scan documents or
messages that are opened.

However, the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect feature should still provide ongoing
protection by scanning any file that is run, downloaded, opened, created, or
deleted. For more information about Norton Antivirus 2000, please refer to your
product documentation.

these products' performance or reliability.

Are you using the latest Epson printer driver:
ftp://ftp.epson.com/drivers/EP5710BE.EXE
or one provided with Win98 (if there is one)?  Are you printing via USB or Parallel?  Does the printer print OK from other applications?

Several solutions were proposed, but ewood never let us know if they tried them at all...PAQ it.

Sorry Chaps none of the answers solved the problem which would be still ongoing except We swapped out the printer for a HP laser jet.  Epson works fine with a different computer. Some kind of hardware conflict perhaps?

Thanks for your efforts

Pretty strange ewood, sorry we couldn't help you.  Computer101 should be back to refund your points and PAQ this question as it might be useful to someone else with a similar problem.
