If the disk is question is the harddisk then first do this Start > Run CHKDSK.EXE /r. If you get the following message then hit the Y key on your keyboard and reboot.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

If this does not solve the problem then

Start > Run > sfc /scannow and see if this helps.

OK, I have determined that this only happens when I try to copy to my Rewrite drive that is under control by Nero InCD.

I can copy to my zip drive without problem.

Can you still read from the Rewrite Drive? Did this problem just surface? Are you using the correct version of InCD and/or Nero for Win2000?

Try this. Put in a clean unuesed CDRW into the Rewrite drive. Instead of using the InCD to transfer a file or two use the Nero program that creates CD's. I don't know what it is called in Nero but in Roxio it is called Easy CD or CD Creater. Now see if you can tranfer a few files from the HD to the CDRW. If not then this might indicate that there is a problem with the Rewrite Drive or the Nero drivers. If it is the Drive sometimes if you open the driver like you where going to insert a disk and use a can of compressed air to spray inside the drive it may clear out dust that may be causing the problem.

If your able to transfer files in the manner I just mention then try formatting the CDRW with InCD and see if you can directly transfer from the HD to the drive witn InCD, If not then there may be something wrong with InCD and unistalling it and reinstalling may work. Or you may need to just upgrade the InCD.

If none of this works you may have a problem with drive itself. A firmware update may help but if it doesn't then the drive is suspect.

I'm accepting your response.  I can still read the drive even though I could not copy.  I tried another CDRW after we first started and it worked .  This has been going on for a while.  I can still use the Regular Nero Program for burning.  I think it just may have been the disk.  Who knows, but thanks for your assistance.
