problems using AOL Instant Messanger (AIM) on network

I have  a cable connection with a wirless network set up.

For my network I am using ICS (internet Connection Sharing) and use AiroNet products.
PCI card in my desktop
PCMCIA card in my notebook. (rover)

My notebook (rover) is assigned the generic ip address by my network.

Everything works great except for AIM on my notebook

When I use AIM on my desktop, there are no problems .. but when i use AIM on my notebook, it connects but then keeps disconnecting every few seconds and I can't send any messages.

Is there a special setting I need to do?

I have LAN setting checked under AIM.

first any firewalls installed (zonelarm, blackice)

Yes, I have zone alarm and use SyGate to run my wireless network.

configure za to let AIM act as a server and a client, and you may have to map the port for AIM (wint sygate)
what os's are you using? why sygate and not the built in ICS (w98 SE and xp)
