"Incorrect Function" error when accessing CD & Floppy Drives in Win2k

"Incorrect Function" error message  everytime I try to access a CD drive or a floppy drive.
The BIOS recognizes everything perfectly. Even in Windows (device manager) everything is installed correctly, however, whenever I click on the CD drives (regular CD & CDRW), or the floppy drive icon, it gives me the error"Funny thing is that my CD-Writer program recognizes both cd drives perfectly, infact, I used my cd burner to make a copy of a music and a data cd with no problems. I can even browse the cds from within the cd-burner program, but I simply am not able to browse it through win explorer.
When I initially installed win2000, it worked ok. Must have changed something..

If you hit the F5 key to refresh, do you still get the error?

Try this

Start > Run and type in

sfc /scannow

this will look for corrupted or out of version system files which it sounds like this may be the case for you situation.

Was this machine ghosted from another unit?
If so, you may have some drivers from the other setup that are interfeering with your hardware.

Boot to Safe Mode, and open Device Manager.  There you may see some extra devices leftover from the other hardware.  remove them, and see if that helps.

Ok, I solved the problem myself. Thanks for the update. It was a conflict with some bundled software.

Can you explain a bit as to the resolution?  This question will be in the database, and people may pay to refer to it when they have the same problem.  Your description may help them later on.

The software 'InCD' that came bundled with my TDK CDRW seemed to be the conflict. Simply removing it did not help, so I had to reinstall win2k ( minus the InCD program). Some conflict also occured with TDK Music master, so I skipped as well.
