How to create a button to automate task

Hi,
I want to have a button which could make this :

Copy a selection that I have made
Make a new JPG file from this selection
Save this selection with that Name : 'OriginalName'_'increment'.jpg
Close the new file (I should be back to the original)

That's it.
The problem is that I want to automate the name of the new files I make with an number so that at the end I would have for instance :

Myoriginal.jpg
Myoriginal_Copy001.jpg
Myoriginal_Copy002.jpg
Myoriginal_Copy003.jpg
Myoriginal_Copy004.jpg
Myoriginal_Copy005.jpg

Any idea how I could do ?

I don't think it's possible. this is why:

[ Copy a selection that I have made ]

I believe you can only make actions from the menu's, not a hand-tool. I you have an action, you can make a batch ...

In the Batch command you need to specify in the naming conventions a 3 digit serial number after the file name. There are fields provided with popup menus to make it easy for you. You cant do it with just the action buttons, it has to be done through batch.

I don't think it is that simple.
I can open 3 pages at the same time, I will leave the first one like it is , I will make 6 part of the second page and 3 parts of the third. The cut will not be the same each time, it will be manual cut by a user. The result should be then :

Page 1.jpg
Page2.jpg
Page2_Copy001.jpg
Page2_Copy002.jpg
Page2_Copy003.jpg
Page2_Copy004.jpg
Page2_Copy005.jpg
Page2_Copy006.jpg
Page3.jpg
Page3_Copy001.jpg
Page3_Copy002.jpg
Page3_Copy003.jpg

When I make a selection and a copy, new document and paste I have to save it in a specific name format.
The pages can't be mixed.

Any suggestions ?

No can do. Photoshop isnt smart enough to know that image X has spawned 3 other images and should be named X1, X2, X3 UNLESS its done as a batch command.

I am wondering if your message has not been cut because you end it with : "here are your options," ?

Could you detail your options ?

Thanks

Fraid not. Cant find anywhere in either of my posts either a : or "here are your options". Must be a problem with EE.

If yer getting into writing plugins and such youre beyond me. Im just an art goon. Yes, it would probably be possible to write a plugin using the toolkit but you do have to have some programming knowledge.
