Slow to delete messages in Outlook Express

recently my computer has become very slow to delete my read messages in Outlook Express.  All of my messages come into my Inbox.  After I have read them I hit the Delete button and they go to my Deleted Messages folder.  I do refer back to them on occasion and want to keep them.  I have about 10,000 messages there.  Lately whenever I delete a newly read message it takes about 15 seconds to actually move to the Delete folder.  Makes reading my mail painfully slow.  Any ideas?

Definitely.  Clean out the deleted items.  You could at least sort them by date (click on the Date header) and then delete everything older than six months or so.

Even better idea.  If you want to save some messages, create a Saved folder and move those which may be important to that folder instead of deleting them.

Worked like a charm.  I did follow the other poster's advice and created a Saved folder where i kept important e-mails.  I was suprised at how much junk i had in the Deleted folder.  Thanks again.

Both were my suggestions.  Glad it worked.
