ibm 390e bios password

i bought the laptop off a friend who told me that his uncle gave it to him cause it was old.   he tried to mess around w/ the bios and set a password that he can not remember....    I tried removing the bios battery for days and still the pswrd shows, i tried taking the whole laptop appart and shorting all points of power and still no work.

if anyone knows how to remove it... or if there is a posibility that the motherboard can be messed up and have a permanent password, please return your comments... thank you...

Thinkpad 390X / i 1700 [2624, 2627]
A. Power off the computer.
B. Remove the battery pack and AC Adapter.
C. Remove the backup battery (RTC) for 20 minutes or use a screwdriver to touch the backup battery (RTC) for 1 second.
D. Put back the backup battery (RTC).
E. Power on the computer and wait until POST ends.
F. Verify that the password prompt does not appear.
