I have a MFC app where the MAPI works great except with Lotus Notes. Is there a way with MAPI (or anything in MFC)to discover what the default mail client is?  Then I if know it's Lotus, I could disable the email option inside my app.

You could check the values in this key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail
or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\classes\mailto\shell\open\command

In the sytem Registry.  Do you need help in how to access registry settings?

For 'problem' clients (Lotus is a problem) you could try:

   ShellExecute(NULL, "open", "mailto://MrPibs@aol.com",
 NULL, NULL, SW_SHOWNORMAL);

as a way to bring up the default client (but that would not place the data into the email), but if you are just passing a short note, you can try:

mailto:person@place.com?subject=This%20is%20it&body=ThisIsSomeBodyText
