How do you view a long file in vi and search a string..
Sometimes vi says that File too long...

vi's buffer (if you mean that) is used to roll back changes, for example with the u command.
view does not use a buffer 'cause it's readonly ;-)

view filename will solve the problem, but if I want to do it with vi only then, is it possible ? Is there any variable or parameter whose value can be increased and vi will allow us to see the long file even.

vi -R file
