DeskJet 880C cartridge refill

Hi,
I tried refilling a coloured cartridge for an deskjet 880C. I did what the instructions said and tried the cleaning process after I refilled it about 6 times but red is still not appearing on the paper. The cartridge doesn't seem to be refilled but I did everything it said. I filled up all the colours in the correct holes and the refill was empty when I finished but the cartridge doesn't print in red.

The instructions said that gently squirt the refill but I found that the refill didn't fill that easy and it filled very slowly. Maybe the vcartridge was too old.. I am not sure.

HP cartridges include the print head. This may be damaged.
The "red" nozzles may be clogged. Apply a few drops of water to the nozzle area of cartridge (remove from printer) and let soak for a few minutes. Wipe clean with a cotton swab or similar. Any traces of red on swab?

I will give it a try. The manual said let it it for 24 hours because there may be air bubbles so I will see if that helps.
Sounds like a good idea.

Ok, I tried what you said and I got red on the cleaning page but there were lines through the coloured boxes. I am not sure if the cartridge is old and has had it or something.

well the cartridge says for single use only.
I left the cartridge out of the printer for about an hour and when I put it back in the red is not printing again. I will just have to buy a new cartridge but the thing is that in Australia the cartirdges cost $70 which is a fair bit for a container with ink. I noticed that the lexmark printers cost $79 and the colour cartridges were $75 each. May aswell buy a new printer when the cartridge runs out :-)

Possibly the situation is a bit different with Epson printers. Their print heads are part of the printer and the ink cartridges are just containers. This may have impact on cartridge prices.

that will be good.
Probably the sponge inside the cartridge is dry, first avoid putting water in the cartridge as this may cause the head to get rusty, use amonia solution or window cleaner liquid to unclog.  Next, try removing all the red ink and let the amonia in for a few minutes, then put the red ink back and let it soak for some minutes.  be sure the cartridge lets ink out after putting the amonia else repeat the process.

I might just buy a new cartridge. I am out of refills.

If I had trouble squeezing the ink out of the refills into the cartridge is that probvably because the sponge dried up?
