Could someone recommend the best proxy server that will work with DirecPC and Starband.

This must be fast and very reliable and stable. Also should allow seemless integration with Outlook.

Have tried several, but were slow, but maybe I did not try long enough to setup.

Thank you...

I am not familar with DirectPC (EccoStar, DirectDish) and such. I've hear several options. The easist would be WindowsXP with 2nd NIC (plus hub) and enabled ICS (internet connection sharing).

If you are a Linux Guru (must be, I am Linux Savvy bording on Guru) you might check out solutions there, but I wouldn't even bother.. It's not easy because of the networking "layout" and most Internet "DISH" providers don't support Linux and you would be on your own. To explain: the downstream is usually via dish, upstream is typically over dialup modem. I've heard folks doing this with Linux w/o any real problems.... The asymetric routing (no the same path in versus out) requires "Advanced Routing" (iproute2) if memory servs me correct and I am a newbie to iproute2!

This comment could be concidered an answer so I am flaging this as an answer. If you don't like the answer, concider this a comment!! ;)

I'd suggest WinXP w/ ICS even though I'd love the Linux Challege.

The proposal sounds interesting, but too much for me right now. Winproxy worked fine, but crashed the computer a lot. Currently using WinRoute as so far so good.
