Skipped files during backup

I am using backup exec Small Business Edition to backup my Small Business Server and am worried that it is not backing up all of the exchange data files properly.

Included are segments of the logs where files are being skipped. Are these files something I should be worried about? I feel they are probably quite important!

File "VxSvc.log" in use - Backed up.
The item \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\E00.log in use - skipped.
The item \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.edb in use - skipped.
The item \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.stm in use - skipped.
The item \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\pub1.edb in use - skipped.
The item \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\pub1.stm in use - skipped.
The item \Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\tmp.edb in use - skipped.
File "AP0.LOG" in use - Backed up.

Couple of things.

DO NOT select to backup the M:\ drive.  That is a virtual directory.  Make sure your Antivirus is not scanning that drive also.

The reason for the skipped files in the first job is because you are not running the Exchange aware backup portion of the Backup software.  The services are running on your Exchange server, therefore, the files cannot be locked to be backed up.

You will need to get the Exchange Agent by Veritas for Backup Exec.

Have taken off M:\ from the selection.

Backup agent is already installed. So how can i get the main database files to get backed up?

jpmartenCommented:
You should have a selection that shows Microsoft Exchange, you select which server to back up and you back up the Stores.  You do not select file by file, just Microsoft Exchange.

I know this but it does not stop the backup failing on thses specific files contained within the store.

Jonsie, are you running a file level back up at the same time.  The Exchange aware runs in a seperate job.

jpmartenCommented:
IF you create a new backup job only selecting the Exchange aware backups, you will not see the skips in the log file.
