Have situation on pc where user was on NT network with Exchange.  No longer on and removed exchange.  Problem is that when sending email, address book is accessed for emails and not contacts.  How do I delete the address book since it is different from the contacts list and set outlook to only use the contact lists for email info.

You didn't say which version of Outlook so these instructions are for Outlook 97 and Outlook 98/2000 Corporate/Workgroup mode.

1) Select Tools | Services

2) Under the general tab, do you see the Outlook Address Book service?  If no, add it via the add button

3) If you see the personal address book service and you want to remove it, do it now. (not advisable under outlook 97/98 because the contacts folder doesn't support distribution lists)

4) Ok out of the dialogs

5) restart outlook (give it about 30 secs between shutdown/restart.  you want to make sure the mapi subsystem reloads as well)

6) right click on contacts folder and go to outlook address book tab to enable the contacts folder as a virtual address book

7) select tools | services | addressing tab.  set the order of which book(s) to check for names, where information should be stored and even what address book to display first

8) ok out.

at this point, you might have to restart outlook again for the settings to take effect, but you should now have the contacts folder showing up correctly

note: for outlook 2002, some things are done under tools | email accounts (add/removing a address book service) while the addressing tab is accessible by opening the address book and select tools | options.

Regarding 2 and 3 above, will they be identified as OAB and PAB?

generally yes.  (the user can give a user defined display name to the pab, but don't know of too many that do.)

OK I'm pretty sure that it is Outlook 2000.  So regarding the address book, I want Outlook address book and I want to delete Personal Address book.  If I delet PAB, then regarding #7 the choice should be easy, right?

Thanks

yes because only contact folders that have been enabled as address books will be available to working with.
