Conexant modem not working

My Conexant modem has been working fine for 2 years. Today I get a message that Windows cannot detect mode; it may not be installed properly. Checked out phone socket with my kid's PC - OK.

Do these things just stop working sometimes. They are only £25 but it's annoying. BTW I recently replaced my CD-ROM drive as it also stopped working.

try booting to safe mode. go to device manager and delete all modem entries, reboot to normal mode and see if windows sees it and reinstall, then see if it dials, your modem just may be bad!

I actually got it working by removing the device in My Computer, Hardware, and rebooting. It didn't plug and play but Control Panel, Add New Hardware worked.

Points to you, thanks,
