just got off the phone with Cablevision. They tell me the reason I cannot connect to the internet on my pc is because of a winsock error in xp . All was fine until a couple of weeks ago, now nothing. My wifes computer accesses fine but not mine. The tech had me do a ftp 167.206.5.41 and it came back with unknown host. Immed. he said it was a winsock issue in xp..Any sugg., don't really want to pull out credit card for Bill..

first a few things to try
can you ping any thing
from a prompt type
ping 127.0.0.1
also from a prompt type
ipconfig /all
then try and ping the ip address assigned to you by the isp
then try and ping here both by www.experts-exchange.com and by 206.169.61.246
check device manager to see that the NIC is recognized and has no problems
also try a system restore
start -->programs-->accessories-->system tools-->system restore and choose a time before this happened

also for now disable any firewall software. Are you sharing a connection, or is this the only one on the network?
