how to install linux?.

how to install linux?. i have windowsXP in one partition.
and i make one more partion for linux with partitionMagic.
i have inserted the linux cd in CD-ROM but it is not booting from the CD-ROM, it is directly entering into WindowXP

Did you enabled the boot from cd-rom option in your BIOS? is your CD a bootble copy of a Linux distribution?

Depending on your distro, you have some chances to install it anyway: for example you can create the boot diskettes form the images that are in the cd-rom (images directory in a red hat distro), or directly boot from a MS-DOS promtp, (I'm presuming RH).
