outlook 2002 slow boot up?!

We all use outlook 2002, accounts with pop3 and an exchange server. My outlook 2002 works fine, but my colleague always has a slow boot of outlook, he almost waits 45 seconds before he can do anything, I have to wait maximum 10 secs, most of the time less.

any ideas what the problem could be?

Look and see if there are any very large PST files in his profile.

Try creating a new PST file in the profile and set it as the default delivery point and then restart Outlook.  Does the delay still occur?  (if so you can switch the delivery point back and close the new PST file).

How do you connect to the Exchange Server and POP accounts?

Is DSN used during the connection?

'he hasn't got a large pst file, another colleague has a much larger inbox but has no problems at all.
DNS is not used, the exchange server is hard coded into the hosts file

Did you try a new PST?  Problems other than large size can occur in a PST and cause delays in opening.

Verify his connection settings don't have DNS enabled.

I have this same issue.  It just sits at the banner screen.  8 user office with Outlook 2002 and exchange 2000.  2 users outlook sits at the banner then opens and runs fine.  No other network issues.  I saw a post about not useing dns. I'm not understanding the reasoning behind this.  Why no dns?

I found the answer for my issue.  It was to disable Instant Messanger.

Tool - Options - Other-

Uncheck - Enable Instant Messanger
