The Mailman Doesn't Always Deliver

Outlook Express 5 or 5.5  When receiving e-mail there is the little icon down near the bottom of the screen indicating the e-mail is being received.  Once received the number of new messages is displayed.  The problem is that the number displayed does not agree with the number of messages received.  I suspect that all my messages are not getting through.  The number reported is always higher than the number I receive.  

I just sent myself an e-mail from my yahoo account to my local ISP account.  Outlook Express reported 1 new message but it wasn't displayed so I presume I did not receive it.  What's going on ?

I have 20 to 30 e-mail addresses blocked from spammers, and certainly did not block myself.

Do you have a filter in place?  Go to View-Current View and make sure Show All Messages is selected.

Show all messages is selected.  The behavior just happened again as I was receiving your e-mail.  The receiving mail reported one more message than I just received or at least was able to view.

Try a Repair on IE5.5 (Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove-IE-Repair).  When was your last virus check?  You can check for free at http://housecall.antivirus.com

I'm wondering if perhaps that the 1 or 2 e-mails that are reported as being received but are not displayed could be one of the ones that I have on my "Block Sender" list ?

I have quite a large blocked list.  Whenever I receive one of those, it goes into deleted items.  I can then see that I have one in my inbox, one in my deleted items folder, and five in my Experts Exchange folder (all new).  In this case, I received seven messages and I can reconcile it with seven new in the three places.
Have you tried a Repair?  Virus scan?

Thanks slink9 for sticking with me and offering great solutions.  I did everything you suggested and finally as you indicated the blocked messages are being reported and sent to deleted items folder.
