First off 8.1 is WAY old and NT 4 aparrently has bugs in its appleshare services. Between the two youre fighting an uphill battle. Have you tried www.macwindows.com?

As i mentioned aboce, NT 4 aparrently has some bugs in its appleshare services. Those are fixed in 2k. Im sure there are also bugs in 8.1 which are compounding your problems. Most, if not all the bugs in 8.1 have been fixed in 8.5, 9.2.2, and OS X. Youre using very old software.
