IDE LED on system

Does anyone know how to force the IDE LED to light up, even if there is no HDD or CDROM in the system. I can use code in QBasic,C, C++, or Assembly.

thanks,

there is no way to do that.
the led is being lit up as a part of the post, and then by the flat cable attached to the HDD/CDROM.
there is no way that you can do it by software, without logging onto your post, and that is highly NOT RECOMMENDED!!

I don't think so. I think that is done through the ribbon cable that goes from Mboard to the drive, so without a drive you can't.  Not 100% sure tho...

I think it would depend on your motherboard manufacturer and the BIOS it's using as to whether or not it's possible to do. And even if it is possible, it might be motherboard/BIOS specific.

I think the LED is hardwired to the IDE controller.

I need some more information. How many experts do you want to award?
