Hi,

I have a number of Cisco Switch which and a lot of Cisco IP phones.  Some of the Switches have been configured already, but we have 2 that havent.  The guy that configured them is not answer his phone or emails, so I cant get him to do it.

Basically all I need is to configure the ports on the switch for voice so I can attach the IP phones to them.

Thanks

Adrian

Ummm, I hate to tell you this but you don't need to configure a switch for Voice over IP. The only thing that you may want to set up is QOS or quality of service, however, if your using DHCP to assign IP addresses to your phones, it may be a little hard to set this up. An IP phone encapsulates it's traffic within an IP packet, nothing any less/more special to a switch. It passes the traffic just like it was another node on the network.

Let's look at a couple things though. How is your current network set up? Are these switches going to other locations to be installed or are they part of their own stack? Do they have VLAN's created on them with routing set up?

You know though, depending on your IP phones however, you may want to use voice VLANs. If these are Cisco IP phones, here is some configuration information for setting up what you would need.

Don't know if you have used these Switches much, but they are really unreliable.  We have had 5 faulty so far, 2 with fan problems, one that got corrupted, one that could not be configured and one with a power supply fault.  We only have 7 switches in total, so it is pretty poor.

Don't like that model. I'm more for the 4006 series and just using add in blades whenever possible.
