Plugin handles user-defined protocol in IE

I wrote an activeX control that can be installed as a plugin for IE and it handles the extension I defined (eg: .ext). But my file is not always downloaded, it can be streamed (like real audio), so I defined a protocol for it (for example: ext://server/test.ext). Is is possible to associate that protocol with my activex control? What will I do ?
I want when the users type the URL into Address bar and press enter, my activeX control will be placed inside IE and the URL is passed to my control (without downloading the file).

The answer for this is:
http://www.codeproject.com/tips/vssprotocolhandler.asp

extract from that tips:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]
  [vss]
    (Default) = "URL:VSS Protocol"
    URL Protocol = ""
    [DefaultIcon]
      (Default) = "VSSProtocolHandler.exe"
    [shell]
      [open]
        [command]
          (Default) = "c:\whatever\VSSProtocolHandler.exe "%1""
