Hello RootDir,

Thank you for you're reply, i have been checking out
the links that you provide for me and they are very
interesting. Unfortunatly, they are a little bit to far right now for me. I will get there but for now...It's too heavy... So i thaugt of another idea to fix my problem with the guestbook on a more simpel way.
What if i would create 3 input boxes, Name, email & comment. And a send button.
When the visitor is finished filling the fields and clicks
on the send button, the info should be sent directly to my email, and NOT to asp,php,... If that is possible offcaurse. I will add the guestwritings then manually to the page myself.
Is there a way to do this? And is this more simple than with asp,php stuff?

Kind regards

You MUST use asp/php/server side scripting if you want a guestbook. The files on the server have to be WRITTEN to, and you can only do that using server side scripting. There is no 'easy' way.

There ARE prebuilt guestbook programs, whoever is hosting your site most likely has one installed on the server. Use that. Contact them and ask them about it. It will NOT use Flash in any way.

Hello WebWoman,

Thanks for you're comment. You write,"...The files on the server have to be WRITTEN to,..."
Why? I don't want to WRITE them, i want th SEND them directly to my email. I will add the comments later myself to a page socalled guestbook.

call 'mailto' javascript function from flash as pass parameters name, email, comment etc. if you do not wanted to use ASP/PHP or any serverside script.

here is link how to use mail to javascript function. Modify this function as per your requirments and call it from flash using 'geturl' function

or use like this from flash

getURL("javascript:parent.location='mailto:" + email + "?subject=" + name + + " : " + email + "&body=" + comment, _self);

that's it. this is help you lot

That doesn't always work -- it's completely dependent on the browser and the user. They don't want to send it, it doesn't get sent. Their browser doesn't have a mail client, it doesn't work. Without fancy javascript, you won't get ANY of that form info in the email.

ANd yes, you DO want to write to a file on the server -- that's how a guestbook works. YOU don't add the postings -- the SERVER handles that. You can always edit it, of course, but you don't have to manually enter everything. If you're going to do that, don't even bother with trying to use a form, just make a simple mailto link, and let the user fill out whatever they want.
