I have an Exchange Server 5.5 running on an NT Server with service pack 4 for Exchange. I have optimized the Exchange Server and it is running fine.

My question is on one of the optimized drives in the Exchsrvr directories in the following folder imcdata/in/Archive is filling up with messages and the same in the imcdata/out/Archive

why is this and can it be stopped

Well, you've got message archiving turned on. What you see in the outbound and inbound archive folders, is a copy of every single message that comes in and out of the internet mail connector. You can delete the contents safely. As i stated, it is just a copy.

If you would like to turn it off, then:

1. Open Exchange administrator,
2. highlight the server that has the internet mail connector..and go to the properties.
3. Then select the "Diagnostics Logging Tab".
4. Highlight the MSExchangeIMC on the right hand side, then look on the left hand side and you will see that "Message Archival" is set to something other than None. Set it back to None if you do not want archivals to occur anymore.

Hope this helps!!
