If you know how to implement a preloader than, add that same concept to each of the external movie clips.  Simple cut & paste!

it is protocol here to offer your 'answer'as a comment..
this allows open discussion of the question by anyone
who is interested in contributing.

If there is definately only one way of doing something
then .. *answer* is appropriate..but you will probably know..that with computers..there is usually 3 ways (or 5)!!

The person who asked the question can then choose the comment they consider best solves their problem..or
can distribute the points among as many experts as they see fit.

kzdown..very pleased that the answer is what you needed..

you don't want to know about efficient file sizes and shared libraries then..and the capability to alter your
content... like CSS?

First is not always best

OK. when you make a movie it has a library with the assets..
when you cut and paste the preloader or any other asset you are adding new symbols to the library of the movie you are pasting into..if you have 10 movies you will create 10
new sets of symbols in 10 libraries.(not such a big deal with a pre-loder if they are very small..it will load quickly anyway..but I like fancy ones and don't want the
pause while the assets load)

read Flash help..using Flash/index/S..and scroll down to
shared libraries.

it is a bit work understanding it..but the concept can save
you a lot of file size..by re-using the same assets..

if the main movie is the 'shared library'.. then the assets for the pre-loader are already loaded in the player...and the pre-loader for the new .swf will appear instantly..

more work..but a smarter result..

in Flash MX..changes to the shared library can cascade
down the sub-libraries.(but..sorry...not in Flash5)

I hope this is useful to you.

cheers
