I am trying to merge several models into one model. I can't seem to find a method that will let me append each model to the new master model.  Can this be done?  How? I am not finding the help files very helpful. I have tried to export and import .mdl files but they seem to replace what I have in my new model.

For merging two models the ModelIntegrator is the right tool. But another way is to save your packages of your models as controlled unit. Your master can import these:

modelA.mdl
  +-- packageA.cat
  +-- packageB.cat

modelB.mdl
  +-- packageA.cat
  +-- packageB.cat

master.mdl
+-- modelA     (not a controlled unit)
  |     +-- packageA.cat
  |     +-- packageB.cat
+-- modelB     (not a controlled unit)
        +-- packageA.cat
        +-- packageB.cat
