Strobe Pro sheetfed scanner

Am using iMac 350, 384 mb RAM, OS 9.1

I am considering purchase of Strobe Pro mainly because its small size, speed and apparent convenience of use, b&w docs and color photos etc. Visioneer (mfg) lists OS 8.6 and 9 as compatible, but does not mention 9.1 on their website.

Question: Has anyone any experience with this scanner? Pros? Cons (aside from its cost: expensive)?  Am interested in quality of scans, ease of use, etc. I am not tech savvy and have the idea that scanner software is difficult so I'd be interested also in comments on Visioneer's tech support.

astaec:

that was a good choice of URLs. the last one led to an Apple Products site which was quite good and I was able to pick up Strobe Pro--a simple paragraph description. I'd already seen similar on Visioneer's website.

I realize I'd really like to know how easy or difficult it is to save, email, edit docs scanned in with Strobe Pro when using Appleworks, PowerMail and Nisus Email? Apparently there's no way to know without jumping in or finding someone with Mac experience with this scanner as even a call to Visioneer did not really provide answers [ever notice how a company's tech support people vary enormously in ability to provide good answers?]

Very similar to my experience, and I can't help thinking that many in Tech Support may have done their training from books versus hands-on; and often find searching google or other such search engine tools and reading end-user feedback gives me eventually what I need (though arduous).  Also searching for FAQs and end-user feedback forums is helpful, not only with the site of manufacture, but other vendor sites of sometimes collect and report customer satisfaction issues.

for Strobe Pro, hopefully this will help you find some insights:

astaec: thanks for that Google "How to Strobe Pro."  That search statement led to much better info than the plain old "Strobe Pro" query I used. Time to just jump in so I order a Strobe Pro.

Thanks, JBeiss.  This is a whole new adventure, and I hope you get all the expectations met and enjoy the process.  I hope that it meets your needs (surpasses them); and most importantly, you have fun in the process.
