I have got a very basic doubt,
I had contraversy with my friend,
we have been working in a asp project.
here the presentation layer(a.s.P) page calls
a dll file. there it runnig a stored procedure which handles the database activities.
I say that it is 4 tier arch, he says 3 tier arch.
which is correct.

As far as you give input:
ASP -> presentation layer
DB -> data storage
dll+stored procs -> business logic

As the dll does nothing else than calling the SP, it's not a separate tier by itself. Only if you place the DLL into a MTS server or on an dedicated Application Server, then that would be the 4th layer because you need more management for this part which makes it a layer.
