Can PC133 SDram be used in a PC that uses PC66?

I know some vendors say that their PC133 memory can be used in either PC66, PC100, or PC133.  Is this a general rule or applies only to specific memory types/brands.?

PC1xx SDRAM 3.3v is backward compatible with 99% of the motherboards out there that require/use PC66 SDRAM 3.3v DIMMs.  It just runs slower in the slower system.
